Externships

Externships are opportunities for law students to earn academic credit and get real-world experience by doing legal work for a government agency, legal department, law firm or court. Students are mentored by an on-site supervisor and work closely with a faculty member to incorporate learnings into the classroom.

Several organizations offer externships to our 3L Alaska students, including:

  • Alaska Legal Services Corporation
  • US Army Corps of Engineers
  • Alaska Public Defenders
  • Office of Administrative Hearings
  • Native American Rights Fund
  • Alaska Immigration Justice Project
  • Municipality of Anchorage

Visit the Externship Program homepage page for full descriptions of available externships and application requirements. Externship positions have separate deadlines unrelated to the registration process with Seattle University. For information on dates and application requirements, contact Professor Gillian Dutton at (206) 398-4010 or duttong@seattleu.edu.
